Advanced Curriculum
ASB offers a standards-based American curriculum from Head Start to Grade 12. Our technology-embedded learning approach brings together STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) learning, project-based learning (PBL) with cross-curricular links and design thinking.
State-of-the-Art-Facilities
Located in North Riffa near the Bahrain National Stadium, ASB’s campus includes technology-enabled classrooms, STEAM Labs and maker spaces. Our multi-level library is equipped with the latest digital resources, serves as a research space and learning hub, while art studios, music rooms and performance spaces build visual and performing arts skills. Our athletics complex comprises two swimming pools, large indoor gymnasium, basketball courts, regulation-sized soccer field and a 400-meter track.

The Esol Education team was thrilled when it was given the opportunity to build and open a new school in Bahrain, supported through the Mumtalakat portfolio. The organization began working to create a world-class school that provides a holistic American and international education. It was clear very early that our goal was to provide an environment where students can achieve outstanding academic success; become independent thinkers; are happy and engaged; and love to come to school to learn and grow every day.

At the American School of Bahrain (ASB), we aim to promote a love of learning, to encourage our students to follow their passions, and to pursue excellence. We recognize that we learn better when we are happy, so we seek to create a joyful experience for our learners, who collaborate and support each other on their learning journeys. At ASB, we value having a growth mindset, which allows students to rise to the challenges of the curriculum, and life, thereby learning that persistence, risk-taking and mistake-making lead to greater success.
Our athletic programs provide students with opportunities to develop physically, mentally and emotionally so that they can use these experiences as a vehicle to reinforce essential life skills. Being part of an athletic team can play a major part in the overall educational experience at ASB. We endeavor to offer age appropriate sporting activities from an early age and by middle and high school we will offer a variety of competitive sports that students can participate in. We will participate with other international schools in Bahrain and will join international leagues so that students can travel for inter-school competitions.
We believe that participation in activities outside of the classroom is just as important as the classroom itself. We provide a wide variety of activities for students so they can follow their interests and develop new skills. These activities will be provided at lunch time and after school. Activities may be offered in the following areas: Dance, Drama, Sports, Yoga, Music, Robotics, Coding, Fine and Performing Arts, Gaming, Debate, Model UN and others as students express interest.

Our coursework, from Head Start program to Grade 12, provides meaningful and challenging opportunities for both individual and collective achievement. We empower students with the desire and the means to reach their highest potential. We teach students how to learn, as well as teaching big ideas, skills and character traits, in all subjects. We want our learners to be able to take a question that’s really compelling in the world or in their lives, and have many tools with which to answer it.
Our KG to Grade 10 standards-based curriculum primarily follows the AERO (American Education Reaches Out) standards set by the Office of Overseas Schools, part of the U.S. State Department. AERO is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. This is supplemented by other rigorous and relevant resources. We aim for a cross-curricular approach, integrating different subjects into meaningful, relevant units of study. Our Early Childhood Program follows the Ontario Kindergarten Program in PreK and K1, as well as AERO Common Core Plus Curricular Standards for English, Science and Math in KG2.

ASB opened in September 2020. The school is reflective of Esol Education’s deep expertise in international education, from designing optimal learning spaces and recruiting the best educators to building a robust international curriculum and ensuring a multitude of activities and opportunities to encourage students to be well rounded, thoughtful citizens. ASB is a joint venture between Esol Education and Elm Education Fund (Elm), a Bahrain-based education platform, established by Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat), the sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Elm establishes and co-invests in world-class educational institutions in partnership with leading global operators.
